Overview
This all-purpose kitchen was created primarily for the
wife, a professional chef and cooking teacher. She wanted
as much of a commercial kitchen in a residential setting
as possible. This was accomplished with stainless steel;
sleek lines; and doorless wall cabinetry for high
visibility of and easy access to the contents. The kitchen
can now accommodate her cooking class students or a
houseful of guests when the couple entertains.
Challenges
Taking commercial materials and adapting them to a
residential setting presented interesting challenges. For
example, the restaurant range required that the wall
behind it have cement sheets installed to deal with the
intensified heat. A hood was designed with an exhaust and
makeup air, which pulls air from the house to be blown
back in. It was sleek and efficient, but with tile
accenting it was warmed up and made to look less clinical.
