Islands of Warmth
Location: Short Hills, NJ
Overview
For this warm, wood-filled kitchen, two rooms were combined to make one efficient and elegant meal-making center for an active family of five.
Challenges
Creating enough space in the island area to seat everyone in the family was one hurdle to clear. Plus, making an intimate space within visually exciting, high-performance space was key to the family’s collective comfort in the kitchen.
Notes
Covering the sizeable refrigerator with wood camouflaged and minimized it. The desk area is an important zone where the chief cook’s recipes are written and revised.
