Overview
An expanding family of four, soon-to-be five, were eager
to have a fun-looking and highly functional kitchen
redesign. Mom, a former computer consultant had definite
ideas about what she envisioned and Dad, a vice president
in the entertainment industry backed her concepts. Warm,
friendly flooring was an important element from the
beginning.
Challenges
A structural challenge presented itself after opening
the ceiling, it was necessary to add a support beam. Otherwise, this particular project was nearly
challenge-free in large part because the wife and mom knew
what she wanted and needed only to be educated about the
myriad options from which she could choose.
Notes
Custom, pull-out spice storage with faux drawer heads
appears as a bank of drawers. A tilt-down grill was
created under bookcase for access to the radiator that could not be moved. Roll-out shelving
was installed for deep pantry access. Important features
include a desk area; wine storage; secondary entertainment
sink; and open pigeonholes for letters/keys, etc. An extra
fixed window was added to allow more natural light in.
